Lanzarote Wine Tour is highly recommended

Great reviews from our excursion specialist

The Lanzarote Wine Tour is one of the best new excursions available on the island and I highly recommend it to our owners and guests. I actually rate it 10/10”. So says Tracy our client liaison and excursion specialist here at Club Las Calas. “The tour offers great value for money, excellent and informative guides, super service and, of course, wonderful local wines.”

Wine has been produced in the Canary Islands since the mid 15th century. So popular was Canarian wine, it became the drink of choice for many royal courts across Europe. It’s even mentioned by Shakespeare in his plays.

Today, Lanzarote wine production has enjoyed a new lease of life with considerable financial investment and the production of award-winning wines.

Yet, despite modernisation, the old growing techniques remain. Vines are placed in deep hollows protected by dry stone walling known as “zocos”. It is these that give the vine growing area, known as La Geria, its own unique landscape.

White wine has dominated based on the native Malvasia, Muscatel and Diego grape varieties. There are also some lovely reds from the Listan, Negro and Syrah varieties.

Lanzarote Wine Tours

Of course, one of the best ways to enjoy the wines of Lanzarote is on a wine tour. Stroll through three beautiful vineyards tasting six local wines and tapas. You will learn about the growers’ unique cultivation methods and their on-going fight against environmental adversity.

The vineyards visited include one of the larger estates on the island as well as a small artisan or family-run winery. Some of the vineyards on the tours include:

  • Los Bermejos
  • Bodegas El Grifo
  • Bodegas Rubicon
  • Bodegas El Tablero
  • Arena
