Where to go food shopping in Puerto del Carmen

If you enjoy the freedom and space of a self-catering apartment, you’ll need to know the best places to go food shopping in Puerto del Carmen.

The good news for those staying in this popula resort area is that there are plenty of options available to suit both your budget and requirements.

For those essentials, there are lots of small supermarkets dotted around the resort areas. These tend to have a limited range and can be very expensive but are ideal for items such as water, nappies and snacks.

If you want to do a larger shop, then are a number of larger supermarkets to choose from which have a greater selection and offer value-for-money.

There are two Lidl supermarkets on the island – one in Tias on the road between the town and Puerto del Carmen and the other close by in Arrecife. These supermarkets are very similar to the ones back in the UK and stock great value beer, wine and bottles of water as well as all you’ll need to self-cater.

If you have a BBQ at your property and are looking to buy fresh meat, butchered in the British way, then head to the family-owned Lanzameat on C.C. Montana Tropical in Puerto del Carmen. They also stock a wide variety of British products including sausages and apple pies.

The Eurospar Supermarket on Calle León y Castillo in Arrecife, heading towards Tahiche, stocks harder-to-find items such as pitta bread, HP sauce and Indian and Mexican food if you are looking for something a little different. Parking here is easy, but you will need a coin for the trolley. You’ll also find a Eurospar Hypermarket on Calle de Antonio Armas Curbelo which stocks a wide variety of groceries, delicatesan goods and even souvenirs.

You will find a Mercadona in Playa Honda and Arrecife, while holidaymakers with families should head for Roper with its great selection of quality meat, fish, cheese and vegetables at great prices. You”ll find Roper on the industrial estate at Playa Honda, opposite Deiland.

Guests staying at Club Las Calas in Puerto del Carmen have access to the mini supermarket at the resort which is perfect for essentials when they arrives such as bottled water and snacks.

For those who like to shop with the locals, head for Hiperdino in Deiland, Playa Honda and Arrecife. While the choice might be more limited and very Spanish, it is great value – although you might have to wait at the checkout. They also stock gluten free foods.

Remember, that if you want to pay cash at the supermarket, then the banks are generally open week days from 08:00 to 14:00. Banks with English-speaking staff are La Caixa and Banco Sabadell. You can find branches in the tourist resorts.

Of course, there is more to your holiday than food shopping, so if you need some retail therapy then Lanzarote does not disappoint.

If you like to saunter around small boutiques then head to the Arrecife where you’ll find lots of little independent shops and stores and selling well-known brands such as Ferrer, Benetton, Zara, Lacoste and Vera Moda. Start in Leon y Castillo and work along the side streets. Remember these shops have siesta opening hours, so shop in the morning or evening.

The Biosfera Plaza shopping centre on Avenida Juan Carlos I in Puerto del Carmen has a selection of stores including Zara, Desigual, Timberland, Foot Locker, Springfield, Levi’s, Pull&Bear, Bershka. These shops are open 10:00 – 22:00 Monday – Saturday and 11:00-21:00 on Sunday.

Centro Comerical Deiland in Playa Honda is the largest of the indoor shopping centres. There’s plenty of underground parking, and shops on three levels including a supermarket, food outlets, indoor play area, cinema and bowling alley. These shops are open 10:00 – 22:00 Monday – Saturday and 11:00-21:00 on Sunday.
