The Club Las Calas guide to the best food markets on Lanzarote
Visiting local food markets on holiday is a great way to meet the locals, get to know a place really well and, if you are self-catering, pick up a bargain or two to enjoy back at your apartment.
Luckily, Lanzarote has a number of food markets across the island selling local fruit and vegetables as well as Canarian and artisan specialities – perfect for your al fresco lunch on your private terrace or balcony during your holiday at Club Las Calas.
The island’s local produce is well worth trying with the cherry plum tomatoes, papas crias (somewhat similar to truffles) and baby potatoes all particularly good.
For further details pop into reception where the team will give you directions and parking suggestions if you’ve hired a car or advice on public transport across Lanzarote.
Here are our top six food markets on Lanzarote.

Teguise market
Held in the old capital of La Villa de Teguise (not to be confused with Costa Teguise), Lanzarote’s biggest and oldest open-air market takes place every Sunday and has hundreds of stalls selling local produce, artisan craft items, and souvenirs. Strolling around the cobbled streets in the sunshine is a great way to spend a Sunday morning.
Open 9am to 2pm

Playa del Carmen market
Puerto Del Carmen also has a market each Friday in the Old Town around the Plaza Varadero. There are up to 100 stalls selling locally produced fruit, vegetables and crafts as well as other local products such as flowers, jewellery, and clothes. After you’ve walked around the market, take a stroll around the Old Town itself with its little bars and restaurants and views of the marina.
Open Friday 10am to 3pm

Arrecife market
This relatively new market takes place each Saturday morning beside the Cabildo and is just 15 minutes or so from Club Las Calas. The market offers over 40 stalls selling fresh produce and artisan goods, spread around the pedestrian streets from Calle Real to the church of San Ginés and in the Plaza de Las Palmas.
Open Saturday 9am to 2pm

Haria market
Located in the small square in Haría, this traditional little market offers a selection of fresh local fruit, vegetables, local dairy products, pastries, and crafts. Haria is a popular destination for visitors in the north of the island. The market is small but it is a lovely little village so worth the trip.
Open Saturday 10am to 2pm

Mancha Blanca market
If you want to shop where the locals go for their fruit and vegetables, then the agricultural market in Mancha Blanca is for you. It’s located opposite to the Church of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores.
Open Sunday 9am to 2pm

Costa Teguise market
This market offers the usual tourist souvenirs but is worth a visit since it is held in the evening and Pueblo Marinero has a nice atmosphere where you can enjoy some tapas, drinks or a more formal dinner in between browsing the stalls.
Open Friday 5pm to 10pm
Rachel from the resort says
There is a great atmosphere at all the markets so we recommend guests visit at least one during their stay at Club Las Calas. All our self-catering apartments have a large fridge so guests can stock up on locally produced goods and enjoy them during their stay with us. Definitely a cheaper alternative to the supermarkets.
