10 things to do with kids in Lanzarote

Our top places to visit everyone will enjoy

If you’re holidaying with kids in Lanzarote this summer, you’ll want to know how to keep your little ones entertained, happy and safe. Spending valuable family time together, and making memories they’ll have forever, is so important.

The good news is that Lanzarote and the holiday resorts are very family-friendly. There is plenty for kids in Lanzarote to do, whatever their ages, that will keep them away from their phones, tablets and game stations.

Here is our top 10 list of things to do with kids in Lanzarote:

Rancho Texas in Puerto del Carmen

More than just an animal park, Rancho Texas is a great family day out. Visit the animals, enjoy the shows, and then hit the lagoon-style pool, slides and splash zone. Make sure you stop by to see the white tiger, Komodo dragon and dolphins.

You can then stay in the evening for their famous Wild West night. Held every Tuesday and Friday, this is full on country experience with cowboys and cowgirls, pony rides, lasso and cabaret show, music and dinner.

There is a free bus service to the park from designated bus stops, so you don’t have to worry about taxis or car parking.

Submarine Safari in Puerto Calero

The weather during the summer is nearly always great, but you can always get a grey and rainy day even in Lanzarote! So what should you do? Head 30m underwater of course on a submarine safari. Lanzarote is an amazing example of a volcanic ecosystem and is renowned as a Biosphere Reserve. One of the most popular attractions on the island, it’s great for kids who love seeing fish, stingrays, shipwreck and much more.

The Pirate Museum near Costa Teguise

Lanzarote has an extensive pirate history with many plundering the island looking for slaves. Located close to Costa Teguise, the Pirate Museum is based in the Castillo Santa Barbara, itself once a hiding spot for locals.

Aquapark in Costa Teguise

Suitable for kiddies of all ages, the Aquapark is the largest on the island and has a number of slides, pools and activities. There is a restaurant as well for lunch and snacks, paint ball, Cinema 10D and adventure playground.

Aqualava in Playa Blanca

This is the park we recommend here at Club Las Calas. Open all year round, Aqualava is really popular for those holidaying with smaller children. There is a salt-water wave pool, beach, slides ramps, lazy river and much more. The Timi Kitchen offers a great value buffet. There is a bus service from Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The beaches of Puerto del Carmen

If you have kids in Lanzarote and funds are tight, then head to one of the many beaches on the island. The blue-flag beaches in Puerto del Carmen are ideal for families with smaller children. They are safe, clean and there are lots of nearby facilities like toilets, bars and restaurants. You can hire a pedalo at Playa Grande or visit the inflatable water park in the sea. If you’re looking to do some snorkelling, then head to Place Chica as the fish come close to the shore.

Older children might prefer the windier beaches like Costa Teguise or Famara where they can surf or enjoy other water sports.

Rooftop Entertainment Centre at the Biosfera in Puerto del Carmen

Developed over the past few years, the rooftop on the Biosfera shopping centre in Puerto del Carmen has a range of activities for the family. These include:

  • Jurassic Kingdom mini golf
  • Giant Jenga
  • Starlight open-air cinema with waiter service
  • Restaurant
  • Mini soft-play
  • Roof top ice-skating (yes, really)
  • Galaxia Virtual Reality 6D rides
  • 6D cinema

You can shop in the Bisofera shopping centre, then head upstairs for lunch and stay all day! There really is something for everyone here.*

Karting at San Bartolome

One of the most popular attractions for kids in Lanzarote and with karts to suit kid, adults and all abilities, karting at San Bartolome is a great way to spend an afternoon. There are two racing tracks to challenge your driving skills – and plenty of marshals to ensure your safety. Track 1 is built on a hillside with plenty of twists and turns. Track 2 is a traditional flat circuit with plenty of overtaking opportunities. For the littlest ones, there is an electric track where the low speeds keep them safe but give them a taste of racing.

There is also a bar, games room, sun terrace and TVs showing sporting events for those who aren’t taking part. Don’t forget to get your photo taken on the winner’s podium. There is a free shuttle bus from most hotels.

Timanfaya National Park

If you have kids in Lanzarote that are into volcanoes, then this is your chance to take them to see the real thing. Timanfaya National Park Lanzarote is one of the main attractions on the island and with good reason. Take one of the tour buses fro the El Diablo restaurant and you’ll see a unique and amazing lunar-like landscape of lava and volcanic features. It’s definitely not scenery you’ll see anywhere else!

There are two geothermal demonstrations showing how hot it is under the earth’s crust. The first is when they throw water into a hole in the ground and it erupts into a steam geyser. The second is when they burn dry bushes directly into the hole. It will certainly entertain the kiddies!

The free visitor’s centre further north on the LZ67 has some fascinating child-friendly displays and a great viewing platform. End the day with a camel ride!

The aquarium in Costa Teguise

The aquarium is one of the largest in the Canary Islands with over one million litres of water in 33 aquariums. Little ones can discover hundreds of marine species of fish, turtles, crabs and even sharks. There are three touch pools where children can touch and learn about marine life like sea cucumbers and sea urchins. Check out the sea horse tank and the garbage aquarium, which shows the status of some of our coastal areas to promote environmental awareness.
