Club Las Calas announces result of Breast Cancer Care Big Pink Fundraiser

Owners, guests and staff raise amazing amount for Breast Cancer Care

After a month of fundraising events for #TheBigPink and Breast Cancer Care, the Club Las Calas team is delighted to announce that an amazing €6,101.12 has been raised to support families facing breast cancer.

Over a five-week period, resort staff hosted a wide range of Big Pink events and activities to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Care – the only UK-wide specialist breast cancer support charity, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

While staff may have come up with some crazy and rather whacky ideas to raise funds, Club Las Calas owners and guests came and supported every event and generously donated to this amazing charity during their holidays.

Rachel Littleworth, the resort’s manager, said: “Several people connected to the resort, including Ruth Skerry, a member of our owners’ committee, have been diagnosed with breast cancer or know friends and family who have been affected.

“We wanted to hold a month of Big Pink events for our owners and guests to enjoy during their holiday, while also raising awareness and money for Breast Cancer Care. Our owners and guests have been amazing and we could not have rasied this huge sum without their overwhelming support and generosity. Even those who could not visit, donated through our JustGiving fundraising page.

“We also had great support from local businesses who donated prizes and services, and our owners and guests have been incredibly generous.”

Breast Cancer Care Big Pink Events and activities included:

  • Cycle challenge – virtually cycling the 3,862km distance from Club Las Calas to Buckingham Palace
  • Hawaiian night
  • Club Las Calas Big Pink Bake Off
  • 80s nights
  • Beer Pong
  • Weekly pie-face
  • Weekly pool push
  • Karaoke nights
  • Big Pink Olympics
  • Big Pink Trick or Treat
  • Grease night
  • Raffle
  • Beetle Drive
  • Bingo

Fiona West, Fundraising Officer at Breast Cancer Care, added: “We’re so grateful to Club Las Calas for holding a Big Pink in aid of Breast Cancer Care. The money they have raised will help the charity to continue to provide a unique range of free support including; reliable information, one-to-one support over the phone and online from nurses and people who’ve been diagnosed themselves. An estimated 691,000 people in the UK are currently living with a breast cancer diagnosis so there has never been such an urgent need for our support services.”

Photos from many of the events can be found above and also on the Club Las Calas Facebook page and videos can be viewed on the Club Las Calas YouTube channel.

For owners who were not able to take part in the events, a JustGiving fundraising page was set up to take secure, online donations.
