Leisure centre George wins top staff member accolade
Club Las Calas, Lanzarote, has announced that Georgina (George) Wilkinson from the leisure centre and animation team has been awarded Staff Member 2016.
George joined the leisure centre team in February 2015 when Club Las Calas was recruiting for a new member of the popular Charlie Bear’s Kid’s Club.
Her outgoing personality made her the obvious choice not only for this position but also for the implementation of the new animation programme.
After finishing school in Northampton, George received a scholarship to the highly respected ‘Stella Mann School of Performing Arts’ where she received a diploma in dance instruction.
George spent 10 years teaching dance and drama classes to children aged from three to 16 years. She also travelled around Britain as a professional singer and dancer working with Theatres in Education performing educational plays and running workshops with children.

George was first introduced to Lanzarote when she came over on holiday to visit some friends who already lived on the island.
What should have been a one-week holiday extended to a two-month stay when she fell in love with Lanzarote. She officially moved to Lanzarote in December 2012 and started working at the Rancho Texas Park as a dancer before joining the Club Las Calas family.
In her spare time, George enjoys watching Disney movies because she is the biggest fan of anything Disney and this year her dream will finally come true when she visits Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with her partner Tony.
Upon receiving this Staff Member 2016 award George said: “It’s the loving, friendly, family atmosphere that is my favourite part about working at Club Las Calas. I love that the guests come back time after time, so every arrival day feels like a family reunion.”
And of course, her favourite activity has to be her legendary aqua gym sessions as she loves to have a good boogie – or as George likes to put it: “We dance in the name of exercise.”
Mandy Richardson, leisure centre manager says:
In the time that George has been working at Club Las Calas, I have never seen her be anything other than happy.
Every day she bounces through the leisure centre door with her infectious smile, all excited and ready to start another day of work with lots of fun and laughter included.
Her willingness to go above and beyond during her working day is extraordinary. She will happily spend hours at home preparing activities for the kid’s club or animation games and she will often come into Club Las Calas on her day off just to see everyone – and still end up wanting to help with something. Her dedication to her job and Club Las Calas is a pleasure to see.
I will always remember a comment from one of our guests about George, saying: “If only you could bottle up some of George’s enthusiasm and energy and sell it, you would make a fortune,” and I couldn’t agree more.
It is an absolute pleasure and joy working with George and having her as part of the leisure centre and animation team and she thoroughly deserves the title of staff member 2016. Well done George!
