The Club Las Calas team:
Running a resort of 147 apartments takes teamwork and Club Las Calas has the best resort team in Lanzarote!
Indeed, even before winning Gold Crown® status, the staff at Club Las Calas had gained a deserved reputation for friendliness and service, which was recognised by RCI® Hospitality Awards spanning more than five years in the late 1990’s.
Led by Resort Manager Rachel Littleworth, Club Las Calas employs over 50 full and part time staff covering Reception, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Accounting, Leisure Services and Resales, as well as a number of contract personnel, who deal with Safety and Security.
The bar/restaurant managers and their own staff are also directly employed by the Club, as explained on the On-site Bars & Restaurants page.
Resort Manager:

Rachel Littleworth has been the Resort Manager at Club Las Calas since 1993 and has worked for the Club since it emerged from receivership in 1991. The various Heads of Department and the Club’s Safety and Security staff all report directly to Rachel.
Despite her considerable experience, Rachel is always seeking to improve her skills and, having initially gained a Certificate in Management, has completed a correspondence course to achieve a Diploma in Management, for which she deserves considerable credit.
Reception:

The Reception team is led by Mario Martinez Relano, who has worked for Club Las Calas for over 12 years. All Reception staff are fluent in both English and Spanish, while some are also able to speak other European languages.
The team works in shifts to provide Reception coverage from 08:00 to 23:30 every day of the year. Overnight, when they are not on duty, Reception is manned by the Security Guard.
Housekeeping:

Head of Housekeeping at Club Las Calas (and also for the Diamond Group) is Carmen Dolores Perez Barrios. Carmen oversees a team of 18 maids, who do their best to keep all of the apartments and common areas at Las Calas spotlessly clean at all times.
The busiest time for the maids is Thursday, when they are often called upon to service over 80 apartments between 10:00 and 16:00. For the rest of the week, each maid is assigned to a particular block of apartments and will thus become a familiar face to those guests staying in that part of the Resort.
Maintenance:

The team of technicians at Club Las Calas is led by Lindsey Key, who has been closely involved with Club Las Calas since he managed the Club's major refurbishment programme in 1999/2000. Lindsey plans and oversees all maintenance and repair activities and is a key point of contact between the resort and the Planning Department of the local ayuntamiento (town hall). As well as undertaking electrical, plumbing and structural repairs and maintenance, Lindsey's team is also responsible for internal and external painting and decoration.
Club Las Calas operates a well-established maintenance scheme, with clearly-defined targets for the resolution of faults and a comprehensive system for tracking performance. The maintenance team prides itself on rectifying snags as quickly as possible and on keeping the resort always in tip-top condition.
A key member of the maintenance team is Santiago Alvarez Curbelo, Club Las Calas’ Head Gardener, who keeps the Resort’s gardens and planters looking beautiful all year round.
Accounting:
Club Las Calas is big business, with an annual budget of over £1.6 million (€2.4 million). Keeping track of expenditure is therefore a vital task, for which Club Las Calas employs two full-time accountants, whose services are shared with the other Diamond Group Clubs. The senior accountant is Isabel Milan Robaina, who, like Rachel Littleworth, has been with the Club since it emerged from receivership. Isabel is assisted by Judith Anderson, with whom she shares a small office in the Mimosa area of the resort.
Leisure Services:

Over the past few years, Club Las Calas has devoted considerable time, effort and money to improving the leisure facilities for guests at the Resort. As part of this process, we have established a small team, based in the Leisure Centre and led by Elizabeth Epps, who organise and run leisure activities and oversee the use of the excellent on-site facilities.
In addition to the permanent staff, Club Las Calas also employs a small team of “animators” during the school summer holidays, who organise games and other activities, focused in particular on the younger children at the Resort. Recognising the value of such staff, the Committee hopes to convert one of these assignments into a permanent all-year-round post, starting in 2005.
Customer Care:

The Club Las Calas Committee believes that people go on holiday to relax and enjoy themselves, not to be pestered by timeshare sellers. Therefore, the on-site Resales Programme at the Resort is kept deliberately low key.
That said, it is still a very important element of the Club’s operation and provides a valuable service for Members wishing to dispose of apartment weeks that they no longer wish to retain. Club Las Calas therefore has a small Customer Care Team, who also handle on-site sales.
That said, the primary task of the Customer Care Team is is to interact with and support guests on site, whilst at the same time making them aware of the opportunities to buy or rent at the Resort. The longest-serving Customer Care Representative is Ann Dennett, who, when she is not talking to guests on site, may be found leading the many activities and special events, which the Club organises for the children of guests. Working alongside Ann is Julie Leonard, who joined the Las Calas Team in November 2008.
Security and Safety:
The security and safety of guests at Club Las Calas is accorded the highest priority at all times.
To maintain the security of guests and their property, a Security Guard is on duty during the hours of darkness, either in Reception or patrolling the Resort. He or she has immediate access by radio (or telephone) to the Policia Local and other emergency services.
To ensure the safety of swimmers, the Club employs contract lifeguards at the two large pools, in the Las Calas 2 and Las Calas 3 areas of the resort, between 10:00 and 18:00 each day. These lifeguards also patrol the smaller pools in the Las Calas 1 and Mimosa areas on a regular basis and at all times operate with the full authority of the Resort Manager.
